NXT Superstar Sawyer Fulton has revealed that he has been released from his WWE contract, via a written statement on Twitter.

In the message, tweeted on Friday, the two-time NCAA All-American speaks of his gratitude, thanking his coaches, colleagues and fans. He also writes of his determination to return to WWE one day, stating:

'The last thing I said to Canyon and Coach Bloom was that I'm still young and I will be back in WWE and I fully intend to prove it. I want to be a great professional wrestler, that goal will never change, only the path that takes me there.'

Fulton made his NXT debut in May 2013, making sporadic appearances over the next few years - often as one half of a tag team alongside Angelo Dawkins. He then joined Eric Young's sAnitY stable in 2016, but saw his career derailed by injury. His spot in the stable was shortly filled by new Superstar Killian Dain.

Fulton's statement also suggests that he'll be continuing to pursue his wrestling career on the Independent scene, of which he has some prior experience. He debuted in 2010 for Mid-Ohio wrestling as Big Jake South, enjoying a fair amount of tag team success before moving on to WWE.

This news comes hot on the heels of the release of NXT trainee Leo Gao, who was hired following a WWE tryout in China. Gao was similarly optimistic, tweeting 'Life is like a box of chocolates, you never konw [sic] what you’re going to get. So should be keep smile!'

More WWE releases could well be on the horizon, on either the main roster or in NXT. Last weekend saw the departures of Summer Rae, Darren Young, and Emma  - the latter causing quite a stir on social media, with fans expressing their disappointment and support en masse.
