Playing politics backstage...

At Super ShowDown, Goldberg competed in his first WWE match in seven months and vanquished "The Fiend" Bray Wyatt in under three minutes to win the Universal Championship. The result sparked a furious reaction online but Goldberg reassured fans that he returned to the company to put over young talent because he owed it to the business.
Now, Bill Pritchard at Wrestle Zone has revealed The Fiend was originally booked to beat the former WCW World Heavyweight Champion but the finish was changed at the 11th hour after Goldberg lobbied backstage to win the Universal title. The former NFL star told the company his character would be ruined in the eyes of younger fans if he lost to a monster like The Fiend and he, therefore, had to leave Saudi Arabia with the belt.
Bray Wyatt was also reportedly sceptical about a title change at first but he eventually agreed to put the 53-year-old over.
Goldberg ultimately went on to lose the Universal Championship to Braun Strowman at WrestleMania 36. Fans don't have to worry about him lobbying to win a world title for some time as he isn't scheduled to wrestle inside a WWE ring again in 2020.
