After months of speculation, name changes, tapings, and roster additions, MLW has officially unveiled ‘MLW Azteca’.

Per a report from Sports Illustrated, MLW Azteca will be a ‘standalone mini-series’ and will debut on January 6 2022 on MLW’s YouTube channel, as well as FITE. It was further announced that MLW Azteca will air on beIN Sports at a later date, debuting on January 8.

MLW CEO Court Bauer said the following about the new show: “Wrestling in America is on fire, but what’s missing is more representation from Mexico. Enter MLW Azteca and the masked world of authentic Mexican lucha libre.”

A spiritual successor to Lucha Underground, reports of the then titled ‘Azteca Underground’ surfaced earlier in 2021, with speculation ramping up throughout the year with the likes of Cesar Duran (Lucha Underground’s Dario Cueto) joining MLW, and the Azteca Underground stable rising in prominence on MLW TV.

MLW Azteca and The Crash lucha libre held TV tapings this week in Tijuana Mexico, with matches taped due to air on both MLW Alpha and MLW Azteca.
