This past Wednesday on AEW Dynamite was billed as Sting’s last ever appearance on TBS before his upcoming retirement at the Revolution 2024 PPV in Greensboro, North Carolina on March 3, where he and Darby Allin will defend the AEW World Tag Team Championships against The Young Bucks.

In the main event segment of the show, he flew down from the rafters to save Darby Allin from an attack by Matthew and Nicholas Jackson, coming down on a cable much like he did in his WCW days. It hasn’t been since back in 2007 in TNA that Sting has descended from the rafters, and prior to that it was in WCW in the year 2000. As noted in a report from Fightful Select, the unfortunate passing of Owen Hart, whose death came due to an accident when he was set to emerge down from the rafters, led to this gimmick being done less and less.

The report goes on to state that before giving the green light on Sting descending from the rafters, Tony Khan contacted Martha Hart, the widow of Owen Hart. It is noted that she gave her blessing for the spot to take place, so AEW continued on with their plans. Martha Hart has been involved with AEW in the past, appearing on TV to congratulate the winners of the annual Owen Hart Cup.
