KURT ANGLE

According to

Cageside Seats

, Kurt Angle is holding out hope to have another run as WWE Champion despite only competing in a handful of matches since his return in early 2017.

Angle responded to a fan on a

Facebook Q&A

by stating: “I hope so. That’s up to the powers that be. I’m healthy right now. Ready to go if I get called on.”

His last run as WWE Champion came in 2003 after defeating Brock Lesnar and The Big Show at the Vengeance pay-per-view, later having a run as World Heavyweight Champion in early 2006, losing the championship to Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania 22 in a Triple Threat that also involved Randy Orton.

Angle departed WWE and joined TNA (now IMPACT Wrestling) later that year and became a multiple time World and Tag Team Champion.

Once again returning to WWE in 2017 to be inducted into the company's Hall of Fame, he went on to fulfil the role of on-screen General Manager of Raw before making his in-ring return at the TLC PPV in October 2017 alongside The Shield.

Angle's most recent match came at the Greatest Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia in late April as he took part in the 50-man Royal Rumble.

If Angle were to have another run as WWE Champion this year then he would break The Rock's record for longest time between championship reigns (currently 10 years). The Olympic Gold Medalist would have to go through his former IMPACT adversary AJ Styles if he were to have another run as WWE Champion, and in an ironic turn of events, if he wanted to claim Raw's top prize, he would have to defeat Brock Lesnar - the man who ended his last WWE Championship run.
