WWE has teased a potential Championship Unification Match after Jordan Devlin - the NXT Cruiserweight champion - announced his return to the black-and-gold brand next week.

Devlin won the NXT Cruiserweight Championship in a Fatal Four Way Match in January 2020 but has been unable to travel across to the United States due to restrictions in Ireland caused by the COVID-19 Pandemic.

In his absence, WWE and NXT crowned an interim Cruiserweight champion in Santos Escobar, who won an eight-person tournament, with the former El Hijo del Fantasma carrying the title since June.

However, Devlin revealed on Wednesday's NXT that his travel restrictions from Ireland have now been lifted and he is set to return to the black-and-gold show next week, while also making clear his intentions to come after Escobar.

Escobar was then seen arguing with NXT general manager William Regal in a backstage segment, in regards to Devlin's comeback, with Regal heard stating to the 38-year-old that the returning superstar had a legitimate claim to the championship.

It therefore seems likely that NXT will build to a Jordan Devlin vs. Santos Escobar match to determine the Undisputed Cruiserweight champion, similar to how WWE addressed Sami Zayn's return to Smackdown as the Intercontinental Champion last September.
