While also an easy target for ridicule, World Championship Wrestling provided many positives to the world of professional wrestling during the 1990s, notably the promotion's cruiserweight division, which provided some of the best in-ring action in North America during the Monday Night Wars.
Some of WCW's best rivalries were fought over the Cruiserweight Title, notably one that featured lots of mentions of armbars, although the title would befall the same issue that everything in WCW did from 2000 and become somewhat of a joke.
The WCW Cruiserweight Championship was created in 1996, four years on from the short-lived WCW Light Heavyweight Title becoming defunct.
