WWE Raw Expected To Leave USA Network, Possibly Moving From Monday Nights
Could WWE Raw leave Monday nights?
Sep 22, 2023
Although the WWE partnership with NBCUniversal remains strong following the announcement that Friday Night SmackDown will air on USA Network from October 2024 for five years in a deal worth $1.4 billion, the TV station won't be the exclusive home of WWE's weekly programming.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the new deal for SmackDown means "the end of Raw and NXT on USA." The market for Raw is said to be "extremely active" and linear networks, streaming services, and "unexpected players" are all interested in acquiring the United States media rights for Raw. The Wall Street Journal also stated USA Network aren't expected to retain Raw and NXT.
Sports Business Journal mentioned Disney and Amazon as companies that have engaged in talks with WWE over the rights to Raw and NXT. Triple H was recently spotted sitting next to Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos at New York Fashion Week.
SBJ also noted there is potential for Raw to move from Monday nights as part of any new media rights deal, although nothing has been decided as of yet. This would be a drastic change for Raw, which has aired on Monday nights since the show debuted back in January 1993.
Monday Night Raw and WWE NXT will continue airing on USA Network through September 2024, with any new media rights deal expected to begin from October of next year.
