A night of carnage...

On a night of total carnage, the consensus is that WWE NXT once again delivered the goods with WarGames. The event has been one of the highlights of the wrestling calendar for many since it was reincarnated in 2017 and the show lived up to the lofty expectations.

TakeOver was headlined by the men and women's WarGames Matches and the women opened the show with their battle. Candice LeRae, Toni Storm, Raquel Gonzalez & Dakota Kai faced off against Shotzi Blackheart, Ember Moon, Rhea Ripley & Io Shirai. The match featured multiple memorable moments as Io Shirai took out the seven other women with a Splash from the top of the cage while she had a trash can over her head. Ember Moon also hit Dakota Kai with an Eclipse on to a steel chair and Io Shirai hit numerous Moonsaults.

The next NXT Women's Title Challenger was seemingly set up during the finish as Raquel Gonzalez put Shirai through a ladder with a One-Arm Powerbomb to pick up the win for her team.

Tommaso Ciampa and Timothy Thatcher put on a wrestling clinic in the second match on the card. The bout was structured around Ciampa's injured throat and The British Messiah repeatedly gained the upper hand by targeting the area. The Blackheart was able to fight from underneath time and time again, though, and he eventually picked up the win with Willow's Bell.

Dexter Lumis and Cameron Grimes continued their rivalry in a Strap Match in the next contest. If their feud is over remains to be seen, but this was the closest The Technical Savage has come to defeating Lumis. He repeatedly wore down The Tortured Artist, using the strap to his advantage, but Grimes was unable to connect with the Cave In. This gave Lumis the opening he needed to smash his opponent's head off the steel chair and lock in the Silence for the submission victory.

In the NXT North American Championship match, Johnny Gargano reclaimed the title he believed he unfairly lost. All three men got in their signature offence but Johnny TakeOver picked up the win after heavy interference from his merry band of Ghostfaces. Damian Priest had to contend with six masked men at one point and he ultimately fell after a masked Austin Theory took him out with a steel pipe. This allowed Gargano to go one on one with Leon Ruff and he made quick work of The Ultimate Underdog with a Superkick and One Final Beat for the 1-2-3.

The main event was a personal affair as The Undisputed ERA clashed with Pat McAfee, Pete Dunne, Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch inside WarGames. The match featured it's own memorable spots as McAfee took out all seven men with a Moonsault from the top of the cage and Kyle O'Reilly and Pete Dunne repeatedly brutalised each other throughout the long battle. The former Indianapolis Colts punter also showed his resilience as he survived a Panama Sunrise from Adam Cole.

It wasn't enough to keep his team's hopes alive, though, as Strong and Fish took out Oney Lorcan with a Total Elimination and O'Reilly hit the NXT Tag Team Champion with a Diving Knee to secure the victory.

Elsewhere on the show, NXT teased the impending return of Karrion Kross, only days after Triple H said The Herald Of Doomsday will return "any second," and WWE announced a special edition of NXT on January 6, 2021, named New Year's Evil.
