Buddy Murphy

Somewhere in the dustbin of jettisoned WWE names alongside Antonio, Alexander, Samson, and Langston (the same dustbin where Crews was once rescued), there now lies Buddy.

It was confirmed Friday that Raw Tag Team champion Buddy

Murphy has been rid of his first name

, and will henceforth be known as just Murphy.

POST Wrestling

wrote of the matter that they, "learned of the alteration through several sources in the company that were notified of the change moving forward."

Murphy previously ditched his first name while teaming with Wesley Blake (who did the same) in NXT, during the duo's championship run in 2015. He reassumed the Buddy portion of his name in June 2016.

No reason has been given for the name change, as has often been the case with many prior examples of name-halving in WWE.

Murphy moved from 205 Live to SmackDown in April 2019, following a six-month reign as Cruiserweight champion. He was then drafted to Raw in October, and subsequently joined forces with Seth Rollins and AOP. He and Rollins won Raw's Tag Team belts from The Viking Raiders on January 20.
