An Attitude era star's return at WrestleMania 39 was shut down by WWE as the company believed nobody would remember who they were or their connection to Adam Copeland.

The wrestler in question was Gangrel as Copeland wanted to bring the vampiric warrior back to be involved with his Brood entrance at WWE's biggest show of the year. Copeland, then performing as Edge, faced "Demon" Finn Balor inside Hell in a Cell at WrestleMania in 2023 in what turned out to be Edge's final WWE pay-per-view match.

Speaking with Chris Van Vliet, Adam Copeland revealed he got nowhere with WWE over bringing Gangrel in for WrestleMania.

"I tried and I just got shut down. Every person shut it down. [Why?] So this isn't a knock on WWE, but I'd always get the 'Well nobody remembers.' People remember, wrestling fans remember and I think wrestling fans want to be rewarded for remembering. And that's a way to reward them. That's what I've always felt. I think, you know, you fast forward to me and Matt Cardona doing a Cope Open. And his music hits and he comes out. I mean, they remembered. And so I've always been a fan of pulling in things from the past and kind of integrating them into current things. But yeah, that was one I just kept getting shut down. I realised, okay, that was not a hill to die on because it didn't get to happen. It's not my sandbox, I got to do with what I've been given," Copeland said.

Adam Copeland, Christian Cage, and Gangrel were the Brood during the WWE Attitude era. Copeland reintegrated the Brood into his WWE presentation from 2021.

Copeland now finds himself as part of All Elite Wrestling as the reigning TNT Champion. The Rated R Superstar believes he has around 18 months left in the ring.
