Various news sites have reported that WWE could have already abandoned the newly-introduced Greatest Royal Rumble Championship - the title belt awarded to Braun Strowman after winning the 50-man match in Saudi Arabia last Friday.

WWE recently deleted a tweet made in the build to Sunday's Backlash, hyping the tag team bout between Strowman, Bobby Lashley, Kevin Owens, and Sami Zayn. In the image, Strowman was holding the Greatest Royal Rumble Championship, which many have taken as the reason the post was deleted.

Additionally, Strowman did not bring the title out with him during his involvement on this week's Monday Night Raw. His Rumble trophy was present at ringside for the six-man tag match between himself, Lashley, Roman Reigns, and the heel team of Owens, Zayn, and Jinder Mahal.

Much was made of the fact that no prize had been announced for the winner of the Greatest Royal Rumble in the build up to Friday's show, but there was some speculation that it would result in a title shot of some sort.

Instead, despite winning the match, Strowman has now been moved into a tag team programme alongside Lashley. There has been little direct mention of his Saudi Arabia exploits in storyline, renewing criticism that the Greatest Royal Rumble event has almost existed out of WWE's canon.

A big part of the event's build was also the promise of many title defences, but only one title change took place on the show. That saw Matt Hardy and Bray Wyatt win the vacant Raw Tag Team Championship.
