Wild Claim Suggests Cody Rhodes Tried To Buy Ring Of Honor

It’s well known now that Cody Rhodes helped change the course of wrestling history, with his gentlemen’s bet with Dave Meltzer leading to the creation of All In in 2018, the first domino falling on the road that led to the creation of All Elite Wrestling.

For the inaugural All In event, Rhodes and The Young Bucks were backed by their then employer Ring of Honor, and a claim from former ROH star Beer City Bruiser on Bobby Fish’s Undisputed podcast states that Rhodes tried to purchase ROH before it ended up being bought by Tony Khan:

“None of us knew the company (ROH) was for sale, which was weird, and then we found out there was four offers for it. It was Tony (Khan), it was Anthem… is that who owns IMPACT? It was Vince (McMahon) and then it was a private backer who wanted to remain anonymous but we found out later it was Cody (Rhodes),” said the Bruiser.

Tony Khan would announce that he was the new owner of ROH during the March 2, 2022 edition of AEW Dynamite, with AEW going on to run the second ever All In show at Wembley Stadium in August 2023.
