The Rock has provided an update on his elbow injury, revealing that he sustained a ruptured bursa sac during filming of The Smashing Machine. Dwayne Johnson has avoided significant tissue damage, but he has a nasty bruise on his elbow currently.

"No extensive tissue damage. Ruptured bursa sac that will eventually heal. I've had much worse, and as always let pain - and tequila - be the guide. Back to work," Rock wrote on Instagram.

Production began on The Smashing Machine in May 2024, shortly after The Rock finished up his latest run on WWE TV. Johnson returned to the company in January and went on to main event WrestleMania 40 night one with Roman Reigns against Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins. Rock then appeared on the Raw after WrestleMania 40, setting up a future match with Cody that is planned for WrestleMania 41 as of the time of writing.

Production on The Smashing Machine, an A24 movie based on the life of MMA legend Mark Kerr, is scheduled to wrap up in August. Rock will star in the movie as Mark Kerr.

Whether The Rock is planned to make any more WWE TV appearances in 2024 is unknown but it was noted following WrestleMania that Dwayne Johnson may have a second WWE match later this year.
