Shinjiro Otani has issued a statement on his health, providing fans with an update on his condition.

The former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion suffered a cervical spinal cord injury on April 10 during a ZERO1 match against Takashi Sugiura. Otani was unable to move following the injury and he underwent successful surgery a few days later on April 13.

Since then, ZERO1 have confirmed that Otani is paralysed from the neck down and the 49-year-old issued a statement on his current condition.

"To all the passionate professional wrestling fans who love professional wrestling, and those involved in the professional wrestling industry, I'm really sorry for causing you so much trouble and concern about my injury. Also, I am grateful for the warm feelings from everyone," Otani began.

"Now I'm working hard on treatment and rehabilitation every day so that I can go back in front of you as soon as possible. I will definitely go back in front of you. We look forward to your continued support of ZERO1 and professional wrestling."

ZERO1, New Japan Pro-Wrestling, Pro Wrestling NOAH, and other promotions will work together at a joint event on June 4. Proceeds minus expenses will go to Otani.
