'Universal Sadness' Within AEW Following Adam Copeland's Broken Leg
Adam Copeland’s broken leg diagnosis causes ‘universal sadness’ within AEW
May 29, 2024
All Elite Wrestling’s recent Double or Nothing pay-per-view featured a brutal Barbed Wire Steel Cage Match between Adam Copeland and Malakai Black, with the biggest spot of the bout seeing Copeland crash from the top of the cage through Black on a table.
Copeland noticeably landed awkwardly on his feet during the spot, with it later revealed that the TNT Champion had fractured his tibia and will require surgery.
Injuries never come at a great time for anyone involved in wrestling, but Copeland’s absence coming days after Eddie Kingston was ruled out of action until 2025 for a similar injury is certainly bad luck. Whilst fans were saddened by the news of Copeland’s untimely injury, a report from PWInsider says the reaction amongst AEW staff and talent to news of Copeland’s injury is one of ‘universal sadness and sympathy’.
Since signing with AEW in late 2023, Copeland has become a valued member of the locker room, with the multi-time world champion having become a mentor and sounding board to younger talents, with his impending absence from the road likely to cause a ‘great void behind the scenes’.
On-screen and in kayfabe, Copeland’s absence will have wide-reaching implications, with Copeland expected to vacate the TNT Championship after winning it from former partner Christian Cage on March 20.
