Trevor Murdoch Captures NWA World Title At NWA 73
The reign of Nick Aldis has ended

After nearly three years, Nick Aldis' grip on the NWA World Heavyweight championship has come to an end.
Trevor Murdoch dethroned Aldis to win the "Ten Pounds of Gold" in the main event of NWA 73 on Sunday night in St. Louis.
In the match's final sequence, Murdoch planted Aldis with a piledriver (in tribute to his mentor, the late Harley Race) before finishing Aldis off with a top rope bulldog.
In the post-match, Murdoch celebrated with his family, as well as Ric Flair, who made a guest appearance earlier in the night. Murdoch credited Race for getting him to this point, and thanked the fans for supporting he and the NWA.
Murdoch had put his career on the line for the match.
Aldis' second reign as champion officially comes to an end after 1,044 days. It began when he defeated Cody Rhodes at NWA 70 on October 21, 2018 in Nashville.
Aldis' first reign as NWA champion lasted close to one year, from December 2017 to September 2018. His 1310 combined days as champion rank sixth most in NWA World title history, behind Lou Thesz, Ric Flair, Harley Race, Dory Funk Jr, and Dan Severn.
