Apr 6, 2021
Recent rumours suggested that cult wrestling promotion Lucha Underground could be set to return, potentially as part of the MLW universe. Now, recent trademark filings have suggested that something could indeed be in the works.
The original Lucha Underground was a joint venture between Lucha Libre FMV, FactoryMade Ventures, AAA, director Robert Rodriguez, and the MGM Television Group.
On March 31, Lucha Libre FMV filed for the ‘Lucha Underground’ trademark, with the description falling under TV series:
“IC 009. US 021 023 026 036 038. G & S: A downloadable television series featuring wrestling. FIRST USE: 20170315. FIRST USE IN COMMERCE: 20170315
IC 041. US 100 101 107. G & S: A non-downloadable television series featuring wrestling. FIRST USE: 20141014. FIRST USE IN COMMERCE: 20141014:"
Elsewhere, Gladiator Sports Network - the parent company of former WWE developmental territory Ohio Valley Wrestling - have applied to trademark OVW’s logo and ‘OVWrestling’.
The trademark description is as follows:
“G & S: Instruction in the nature of wrestling clinics; Providing facilities for wrestling tournaments; Providing facilities for wrestling training; Training services in the field of wrestling; Entertainment in the nature of wrestling contests; Entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibits and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer; Entertainment services, namely, organizing and conducting an array of athletic events rendered live and recorded for the purpose of distribution through broadcast media; Providing personal fitness training for wrestlers; Providing fitness training services in the field of wrestling.”
