Tony Khan Comments On AEW Being ‘Cold'
AEW’s ‘cold’ status discussed by Tony Khan
Oct 11, 2023
2023 has certainly been an interesting year for All Elite Wrestling, as despite record crowds for shows such as All In at Wembley Stadium, and the launch of Collision on Saturday nights, the product is widely accepted as ‘cold’.
Compared to the highs of 2021 especially, AEW doesn’t seem ‘must see’ at this present moment in time, with lower than average viewing figures and stagnant ticket sales adding fuel to the fire. Dave Meltzer recently declared the product ‘cold’, and AEW President Tony Khan has given his opinion on the state of the company, saying the following on the Dan Le Batard show:
"We've really begun to change it [The perception of the product being ‘cold’]. The perception is very strong for AEW worldwide. 44 days ago, we set the all-time record for ticket sales for any wrestling show ever in the history of the planet. We're having a very good year, our pay-per-view numbers are through the roof, and we're going to have a great show tonight on TBS. The fans are behind what we're doing, people are mobilised behind this lineup, I've seen more positive momentum and positive feedback about AEW in the last 24 hours than I have in several weeks and that's saying a lot because we've had a lot of huge shows in the last several weeks," Khan said.
AEW are believed to be in the midst of contract talks with Warner Bros. Discovery, with reports suggesting that the company could be set to drastically increase their PPV output to 12 shows a year from 2024.
