22 years after he made his professional wrestling debut, Claudio Castagnoli finally became a world champion at Death Before Dishonor on July 23 as The Swiss Superman defeated Jonathan Gresham to capture the ROH World Title.

ROH owner Tony Khan has previously revealed that he planned to have Castagnoli make his first post-WWE appearance at Ring Of Honor's July pay-per-view, but plans ultimately changed after Bryan Danielson suffered a concussion and Claudio debuted in AEW instead at Forbidden Door on June 26.

Despite the earlier-than-planned debut, Khan did not divert from his original plan and he revealed to Wrestling Inside The Ropes that Castagnoli would have still won the ROH World Championship.

"That was part of my original plan, yes, and I knew there was a chance that he would also be stepping into the Blackpool Combat Club with Bryan Danielson injured. Now Bryan Danielson's back and the Blackpool Combat Club is truly stronger than it's ever been, literally with Claudio in the group, one of the strongest men in wrestling and with Bryan Danielson, one of the greatest wrestlers of all-time coming back," Khan said.

When Claudio will defend the ROH World Title for the first time has yet to be revealed, especially since the promotion remains without a TV deal.
