From AEW’s inception it has been positioned as an alternative to WWE, and has on more than one occasion, fired shots at Vince McMahon’s sports entertainment behemoth.

Now Tony Khan has joined in on the action, saying to AP: “If you’ve seen other wrestling and said, ‘This isn’t for me,’ give AEW a chance, it’s a lot less likely to insult your intelligence than other shows out there.”

Khan has followed the likes of Taz, who said something similar during an AEW Dynamite post-show event in July 2020:

“You’ll get some people that’ll make comments… ‘Oh there it is again, AEW complaining about WWE.’ No, dumb s****. What we’re doing is we’re not insulting your intelligence, and we’re acknowledging WWE. They are the ones insulting your intelligence. We bring them up because they’re there… we’re trying to be transparent for you people.”

Even Team Taz member Ricky Starks has spoken on how AEW is no longer the alternative, with the current FTW Champion talking up AEW’s recent momentum on Throwing Down With Renee Paquette and Miesha Tate.
