Tommaso Ciampa has taken to Twitter to award his own NXT Championship match against Velveteen Dream five stars.

The title defence was the penultimate bout of yesterday's positively-received NXT TakeOver: WarGames card, although it missed out on top billing thanks to the titular stipulation.

Ciampa was able to retain after a punishing match, hitting Dream with a draping DDT onto the steel divide between the arena's two rings.

Elsewhere, Shayna Baszler also successfully defended her championship, defeating Kairi Sane 2-1 in a two out of there falls match. She didn't do so alone, however, and had to rely on the help of Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir at times. Babyfaces Dakota Kai and Io Shirai came out to help even the odds, but Baszler was still able to prevail.

NXT's other champions were all in the main event of the evening, a 4-on-4 WarGames match. The babyface team of North American Champion Ricochet, UK Champion Pete Dunne, and the War Raiders prevailed over all four members of the Undisputed Era.

Should Meltzer agree with Ciampa and award the match five stars, it will be the fifth NXT match to receive such a rating. All four existing NXT 5-star matches have occurred in 2018.

The first came at TakeOver: Philadelphia, where Andrade 'Cien' Almas successfully defended his title against Johnny Gargano. The next two took place over WrestleMania weekend, where at TakeOver: New Orleans we saw a thrilling multi-man ladder match for the North American title. Later that same night, Gargano and Ciampa clashed in an unsanctioned main event.

Finally, on the July 11th episode of NXT's weekly show, Tyler Bate and Trent Seven lost to Roderick Strong and Kyle O'Reilly in tag team action.
