Jon Moxley's Drunken Ric Flair Arrest Story & Mideon's Culinary Expertise: Ten Things You May Have Missed In Wrestling This Week

The main news story of the wrestling week is undoubtedly All Elite Wrestling announcing the signing of Paul 'The Big Show' Wight to a long-term contract to work as a commentator and wrestler.

The news shook the wrestling world, since most assumed Wight was a WWE lifer, having been with the company since 1999 (save for 2007, when he left to pursue a career in boxing).

After that bombshell, it has been hard to really think about anything else but plenty of other stuff has went on over the course of the past seven days.

As always, wrestlers will talk if there's somebody listening or giving them a platform, and this week's collection of things you might have missed features some real corkers from various interviews, podcasts and social media posts.

And when you've finished reading it, you can always go back to daydreaming about Paul Wight wrestling Marko Stunt.

10. Eddie Guerrero Planned On Opening Wrestling School Before His Passing

All Elite Wrestling manager Vickie Guerrero was a guest on the Unrestricted podcast this week where, among other things, she discussed her former husband - the late, great Eddie Guerrero.

Vickie was asked about what she believes Eddie (who passed away in November of 2005) would be doing if he was alive today.

She mentioned that she thinks he would have made a great backstage producer/agent, because he loved mentoring and helping younger talent and that she could also see him getting into acting since he was so charismatic and entertaining.

The most interesting part of her response, however, was when Vickie revealed that Latino Heat had been talking about opening up his own wrestling school a lot before his passing.

The loss of Eddie was huge and is in many ways still felt by the industry today. It's amazing to think about the type of wrestlers his training school would have generated, considering his experience and skill level.

9. Kenny Omega Talks Brock Lesnar

With the working relationship between AEW, New Japan Pro Wrestling and Impact coming into effect, dream matches have been a point of discussion recently.

A lot of those scenarios seem to involve current AEW World Champion Kenny Omega.

Omega actually responded to a question regarding a dream match on Twitter, but not one against someone from NJPW or Impact.

The Best Bout Machine responded to a fan asking about a match with Brock Lesnar (who is currently a free agent), responding that "Brock is one of the greatest athletes and performers of all time. I'd need more friends if I were to face him".

While an Omega/Lesnar match probably has an almost-zero chance of ever happening, Big Show did recently leave WWE for AEW, so nothing seems impossible anymore.

8. Sami Zayn Believes WWE Should Use Bo Dallas More

Sami Zayn is never one to shy away from expressing an opinion, so when he was asked by SK Wrestling about which WWE performer he believes should receive a push, he was more than happy to provide a (somewhat surprising) name.

The Underdog from the Underground said that while people often talk of wrestlers like Cesaro and Dolph Ziggler being underrated and underutilised, he believes that Bo Dallas should be given more of a look.

Zayn said:"Not even talking about pushing to the moon, but just pushing and using, I’d actually say Bo Dallas" and that "Bo Dallas, in my opinion, is maybe the most talented person that doesn’t get… I mean, he’s not even being used". 

While still under contract to WWE, Dallas hasn't wrestled a match since October 2019.

Sami continued: "I know exactly what he’s capable of. I think he’s one of the most talented people we have that’s not getting even an inch. So, if I had my way, I would definitely showcase him a little bit more". 

In another Bo Dallas note you might have missed, the former NXT Champion is currently dating, and living on a farm with, Liv Morgan.

7. Eric Bischoff Buries Lance Storm

On the subject of outspoken wrestling personalities, Eric Bischoff went in hard on Lance Storm during a recent episode of his 83 Weeks podcast.

Bischoff was discussing the 2001 WCW pay-per-view Superbrawl Revenge, which featured Storm wrestling Bischoff's pal (and his kid's former karate instructor) Ernest 'The Cat' Miller in a match to determine who would be WCW Commissioner.

The Bisch was critical of Storm, pointing out what he perceived as a lack of charisma and an inability to play a character.

The whole rant is quite something:

"This is going to sound like I’m beating up on Lance. I don’t have anything against Lance but this is a guy that likes to keep himself out there and judge other people’s work and keep himself out there talking about his unique perspective on the wrestling industry. Lance Storm never got to the seven and a half minute mark of his 15 minute of fame opportunity. He just didn’t.

A perfect example as to why he didn’t is because he never understood heat and he still doesn’t. Here is a perfect example of his lack of understanding of heat and why he never got any. There’s a couple reasons why that we saw on this particular show. He comes out as the commissioner in a babyface role. He’s doing his job, and by the way he did a poor job at it because he’s not good at delivering dialogue. He’s very stiff and it sounds like he memorized it and it comes off like he read this 20 minutes ago. 

It was so bad. Lance Storm didn’t know how to deliver dialogue, he didn’t know how to be a character. It’s not his fault, I guess. He was put into a position he shouldn’t have been put into because he wasn’t good on the mic, but nonetheless, they put him out there anyway. But, the role that he established at that point, was one of, more or less, a babyface doing the right thing, being in control as the commissioner. It’s hard to hate a guy like that, especially because he was doing it for the right reasons. 

Now, to come out with his ‘I’m from Alberta and I’m the best technical wrestler. Only Canadians should be in charge of this company.’ He got no heat for it. If he did, it was go away, you’re f**king boring heat, not I want to see you die heat. It was just bad. Now, is Lance Storm a good technical wrestler? Absolutely. Does he have an ounce of charisma? Did he have an ounce of charisma? That’s why he never was able to expire the 15 minute clock for fame. He only got to the seven and a half minutes because he just didn’t have it".

6. CM Punk Ribbed Jon Moxley With Jake's Snake

Alright, get your minds out of the gutter! It's not as filthy as it sounds.

Although, to be honest, it is still quite a dirty story in a way.

Jon Moxley spoke with Inside the Ropes this week and talked about numerous headline-grabbing things, such as his impending AEW Title Exploding Barbed Wire Cage Match with Kenny Omega and why he thinks WWE and AEW will never work together.

Less reported on, though, was the anecdote he shared regarding the time he was wrestling in WWE as Dean Ambrose and Jake Roberts draped his snake over him at the end of Old School Raw in January of 2014.

According to Moxley, he had a hard time selling as the serpent slithered on his face due to a rib from CM Punk:

“I remember that I was like trying to play dead and that snake is like tickling my face, so I’m trying real hard to not sell that he’s tickling my face. CM Punk was in a ring and he just goes, ‘That snake s— on your face!’ So I started laughing and I was supposed to be knocked out from the DDT, and I was laughing at him yelling that snake s— in my face, which it didn’t – it did not s— on my face, I don’t think.”

See, Punk could still have fun, despite being weeks away from walking out of the company.

5. Mideon Entering Favourite Chef Contest

The 2020 Survivor Series was the first time WWE fans had seen Dennis 'Mideon' Knight on their screens in 20 years.

He was on hand to say farewell to friend and fellow Bone Street Krew member The Undertaker, and his appearance got some people wondering what the soothsayer had been up to for the past two decades.

Since retiring from wrestling, Knight has been working as a chef, specialising in fine dining. He was looking to win the Favorite Chef contest at favchef.com and 'Taker actually tweeted (since deleted) to promote it and ask fans to vote for his former Ministry of Darkness pal.

When asked what he would do with the $50,000 prize money, Knight said that he would help his nieces and nephews with things like their college tuition but would also invest in a YouTube channel that would host cooking show where he would have guest stars like Undertaker, Steve Austin and The Rock.

Now I can see The Phenom appearing, and possibly Stone Cold, but I think Dwayne might be a little busy these days...

Perhaps he could have old tag partner Henry Godwinn on to discuss the intricacies of the slop bucket?

4. Riddle Calls WWE 'Most Outlandish High School'

The backstage etiquette of WWE stars is almost always a hot topic, with The Undertaker's recent comments on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast resulting in wide debate.

Many were offended after The Deadman basically said that he believes the current generation are a little soft compared to those from back in the day and that they spend too much time playing video games.

Summers were better when you were a kid too, weren't they Mark? Remember spacehoppers? They were brilliant they were!

Anyway, Riddle had some interesting things to say about the modern-day WWE backstage environment when he spoke to Metro.co.uk:

"Pro wrestling is the most outlandish high school you’ll ever go to. Monday Night Raw is just like, “what’s gonna happen this week? If anybody has a problem with anybody, nobody says it. It’s always like, “pst pst”. I’m like, why are we hearing stuff like this? 

Say something, do something! I’m not saying you have to go The Undertaker route and fight each other and be men about it! I’m saying let’s talk about it. But hey, it is what it is!"

The WWE United States Champion has previously had backstage run-ins with Brock Lesnar, Goldberg and Seth Rollins.

He did mention that got along with some WWE legends and appreciated the way they interacted with the current talent.

"Some of the legends come in and they find their own locker room, they stay away from the boys. But then there’s legends like Gillberg, Edge, Christian – legends like that, they came in, they sat with all the boys in the main locker room. We jib-jabbed, flapped gums, talked shop and had fun.

I hope if I’m every in that position, I don’t want to be sat in a room by myself playing on my cell phone. I wanna be talking to the boys, hanging out. Maybe playing some N64 because that’s what we do!".

Oh, he went there, bro.

3. The Rock Beat Up Kids For Saying Wrestling Was Fake

The Rock is currently hard at work (when is he not?) promoting his new NBC sitcom Young Rock...

...as well as his tequila brand, a potential presidential bid and who knows what else.

In the second episode of the series, young Dwayne is shown knocking out a schoolmate for calling wrestling 'fake'.

After a fan tweeted The Great One to say that the scene made his night, Rock responded by saying:

"Hi Jack, yup it sure did happen. Twice. I pile drived a kid in elementary. KO’d a kid in high school. Got suspended both times. I was wrong. But back in the 80s I was taught by my dad and all the wrestlers to always “protect the business”. It’s what we we did". 

When another fan commented on a scene showing a promoter screwing over The Rock's dad, Rocky Johnson, the People's Champion said:

"There was a harsh/seedy underbelly to pro wrestling for decades and decades. It was what it was and you did your best to keep your head on a swivel in those shark infested waters". 

I personally can't wait for the Dark Side of the Ring on Flex Klavana.

2. WWE Fan Threw Baseball At Stephanie McMahon

Kurt Angle's new podcast The Kurt Angle Show (where did they come up with that title?) has quickly become one of the most must-listen wrestling podcasts out there.

Given that there are about 10,000 wrestling podcasts to choose from, that's no small feat.

The Olympic Hero has great recall and often comes out with fantastic and obscure stories, like the one about the time a fan threw a baseball and hit Stephanie McMahon during a live event.

Angle told of how after the incident, he decided to call Vince McMahon rather than tell police and that his boss was naturally furious about what had occurred:

“This is crazy. So, I was going to call the police, and I called Vince McMahon instead earlier that night during the show, Stephanie McMahon walked out down the ramp, and someone threw a baseball at her, and Vince McMahon went to security and said ‘You find the SOB that did that. I don’t care how much money it takes; you tell fans, you keep offering money until they say yes'. 

100 dollars, you know if they don’t want to do it for 100, 200, 300, 400, 500. So, security was going around asking the fans, and they weren’t going to tell, and they ended up doing a really high number, and one of the fans said ‘He did it'". 

That fan can be thankful that the Genetic Jackhammer himself wasn't there to get his hands on him. If he was, he'd have had no chance in hell.

1. Ric Flair Blamed Jon Moxley For Drunken Arrest

And we finish off this week with another gem from Jon Moxley.

Speaking with Metro.co.uk, Moxley shared a story of drinking with Ric Flair in an airport. After having one too many, the Nature Boy ended up being arrested and apparently blamed the former Dean Ambrose for it.

Per Moxley:

"Getting drunk with Ric Flair, he gets arrested at the airport and he’s walking round telling people I got him arrested at the airport. ‘I’m like, “OK Ric! I wasn’t twisting your arm to order double Bloody Marys at 2.30 in the morning”. I’m like, 'I’m hanging out with Ric Flair, this is crazy, what kind of life am I living?!'. I’ve been very blessed to transport myself into the universe that I watched and wondered over as kid. Sometimes I have to be like, 'what the hell is going on? How did this become my life?'. But it’s pretty cool!".

The former (and perhaps soon to be future) AEW Champion also commented about how cool it is to have his matches called by Jim Ross and see childhood heroes like Sting when he goes to work.

As far as his own legacy in the business?

"When I think about, 'Oh how are people gonna remember me in 50, 100 years when I’m dead?'. I don’t give a s**t, I’ll be dead, what does it f***ing matter? I’m not worried about my ranking on anybody’s list. I’m just worried about having the best experiences, having the best matches and the best true freedom of expression that I can, while I can". 

And that seems like as good a place as any to say goodbye for another week.
