There is a new number one contender for the AEW Women’s World Championship, and it isn’t who you might expect. On last night’s AEW Rampage, there was a fatal four way match featuring Willow Nightingale, Skye Blue, Anna Jay, and Abadon.

Despite not appearing on televised AEW programming since 2021 and not winning a televised match since 2020, Abadon emerged victorious and is now next in line to challenge Hikaru Shida for the gold. It should be noted that Abadon did procure quite an impressive winning streak on AEW Dark before the show was taken off YouTube and cancelled, with their winning run now extending to 19 matches without a loss in AEW - stretching all the way back to 2021, so to those who have kept up with Dark, this isn’t an entirely bizarre choice.

AEW has been known to bring out Abadon for Halloween season in the past when they took on Britt Baker in a Trick or Treat Street Fight a couple years ago. Abadon has previously challenged Hikaru Shida for the AEW Women’s World Title during her first reign with the gold, with the pair engaging in a short feud which was ultimately won by Shida in a match at AEW Dynamite: New Year’s Smash 2021.
