A major Championship in IMPACT Wrestling was seemingly 'retired' by the champion during the August 16 tapings for future IMPACT Wrestling shows.

Please note spoilers on the who was involved, and which championship, follow:

According to IMPACT Asylum, Christian Cage kicked off the Monday 16 August IMPACT Wrestling tapings to celebrate his IMPACT World Championship victory over Kenny Omega on the first episode of AEW Rampage.

The new IMPACT World Champion talked about how great is was to be back, having won the Title, and then talked about retiring the TNA World Championship that he was also carrying. Christian then handed the belt over to ring announcer David Penzer, who carried it to to the backstage arena, seemingly signalling the end of the Title in the company.

The TNA World Heavyweight Championship was initially reintroduced by Moose back in April 2020 as he declared himself a champion. Executive Scott D'Amore would legitimise the Title in February and set up a unification match between him and then IMPACT World Champion Rich Swann. Swann would win the match, and both Championships, before Kenny Omega defeated him in a Winner-Take-All Match at IMPACT Rebellion.

Christian is set to defend his newly won IMPACT World Championship against the number one contender, Brian Myers, at IMPACT Emergence on Friday.
