Shawn Michaels Reveals “Out Clause” Included In WWE WrestleMania 26 Retirement Match With The Undertaker
WrestleMania 26 saw a career end (sort of)...
Mar 7, 2019
At WrestleMania 26 in Glendale, Arizona, Shawn Michaels lost to The Undertaker and was forced to retire from professional wrestling. HBK initially bucked the trend when it comes to WWE Superstars who have been 'forced' to retire by losing a match, as he stayed retired for over eight years. However, the WWE Hall of Famer returned for one match at last year's Crown Jewel event in Saudi Arabia.
And now, in an interview with
Sports Illustrated, Michaels has revealed the retirement match with 'Taker had an "out clause" should he have lost the bout, but didn't want to retire indefinitely: "I don’t know that I ever completely decided that it was going to be it [for my career] until after that match was over. We had always sort of discussed sort of an ‘out clause,’ so to speak, if I had the desire to do it again.
"But I can remember myself, and ‘Taker, and Michaels Hayes just sitting there after the match, like we had done the year before, just the three of us, sort of sitting there, alone, taking it in, and I said, ‘You know something, guys? I feel good with that.’"
Maybe this stipulation is included in every single retirement match, and every big WWE comeback of this ilk actually makes sense now...
