Brock Lesnar may have left WWE Day 1 as the WWE Champion after his late addition to the Title Match, but a new report indicates that Seth Rollins was actually originally booked to win the Championship in the multi-man bout over the weekend.

As previously noted, Champion Big E was set to defend his WWE Title against Rollins, Kevin Owens and Bobby Lashley at WWE Day 1 on Saturday while Lesnar was booked to meet Roman Reigns in a Universal Championship Match. With Reigns confirming a positive COVID-19 result just hours before the event, Lesnar was instead added to the WWE Title Match and would win the prize.

Many fans have speculated what would have been had WWE been able to present their initially planned show at Day 1 and Dave Meltzer, writing for Sports Illustrated, claims that the plan was for Seth Rollins to walk out of the Premium Live Event as the new WWE Champion.

Meltzer wrote: "The original plan to build for WrestleMania, whatever it was, changed greatly when Lesnar pinned Big E to win the WWE title to end Saturday’s show.

"The original scripted plan for the show was for Big E to lose the championship, but to Seth Rollins, who had tested positive for COVID-19 last week, and the champion instead lost his title to Lesnar as the result of another positive test."

It remains to be seen how WWE will change their creative plans between now and WrestleMania 38, given the switch in WWE Championship holder on Monday Night Raw.

Lesnar is scheduled to defend his newly won Title against Bobby Lashley at the Royal Rumble in four weeks' time.
