Former WWE Superstar and Mae Young Classic competitor Serena Deeb has joined WWE as a Performance Center trainer. In an interview with

WWE.com

, Deeb explained:

'I will be a coach for the female talent, and obviously, alongside Sara Amato for the first little bit and helping to groom the next generation.'

The 31 year old explained that her ultimate goal is to teach her own class. She also mentioned that the idea of a coaching role was initially mentioned to her prior to the Mae Young Classic - so clearly this deal has been in the works for a while.

Deeb signed with WWE in mid-2009, and spent roughly six months in Florida Championship Wrestling before debuting on the main roster.

Initially, Deeb was an audience member who was invited to join the Straight Edge Society - before later becoming a fully-fledged member of the CM Punk-led stable. She was released from her contract in August 2010.

After returning to the independent scene for seven years, Deeb returned to WWE as a participant in the Mae Young Classic. She defeated Vanessa Borne in the first round, before being eliminated by Scottish entrant Piper Niven in the following match.

In terms of the improvements WWE have made in terms of Superstar development over the past few years, Deeb had positive things to say:

'It’s just an incredibly well-oiled machine at this point. It always was, but it’s been very interesting to see the evolution. I started in OVW, I was there for five years and then I was in FCW, so I got to experience a lot of the different locker rooms and environments. NXT is … I don’t want to say it’s what it always should have been, but it’s kind of what they always were striving for, and it finally is what it is.'
