Former WWE commentator Scott Stanford has revealed the original plan for the WWE Network was for the platform to be a television channel.

Stanford, who worked for WWE between 2009 and 2016, was utilised as the host of pre-shows on pay-per-views and also provide commentary on Smackdown during his time with the company.

The former announcer has now revealed there were plans for him to have his own studio show on the WWE Network, akin to a breakfast show, but this idea was only in the works when WWE Network was going to follow its original plan of being a TV network, rather than an on-demand service.

Stanford told The Launchcast: "The WWE Network was originally supposed to be a TV network like YES Network or MSG. The powers that be decided to go with streaming. Had it been on television, we were talking about me doing a Scott Van Pelt type show, like a morning show. All the bells and whistles studio show with the news of the day, bring in John Cena, all kind of stuff.

"Once it became a more on-demand situation, the ideas changed and went out the window. That's what I think would've happened, a SportsCenter-type scenario, but WWE. I still think it would be pretty cool."
