WWE's Samoa Joe: Why I Prefer Being A Heel
The Samoan Submission Machine is at his best when causing mayhem
Jun 30, 2021
Samoa Joe has rightly been regarded as one of the best pro wrestlers in the world for the last 20 years. Able to thrive no matter the stipulation, story, or motivation, Joe has excelled in face roles as ROH and TNA World Champion, and as a heel, such as his NXT Champion run, and his feud with AJ Styles on WWE’s main roster.
Now, whilst talking to Ryan Satin on Out Of Character, Joe has opened up that he prefers being a heel:
“I think in general, I enjoy being a heel a bit more. And I think it’s because there is a much more cerebral aspect to being a heel. You’re trying to elicit emotions that aren’t often trying to be elicited from other human beings.
“It’s a very different art, you know. The art of appeal is something everybody in life practices, and very few master it, but everybody in some form or fashion tries to be appealing to other people. The art of being a heel is a very different mindset. It’s built on logical manipulation, knowing what plucks the right strings with certain people. That in of itself, the mind-game that it is, is very interesting to me and is a lot more fun.”
Whether heel or face, it takes a brave person to get in Joe’s way.
