Samoa Joe is looking ahead to the debut of AEW Collision tonight as he teams with Bullet Club gold members to take on the trio of the returning CM Punk and the AEW World Tag Team Champions FTR in a big main event. He spoke to Sports Illustrated about Collision, but he was also asked about the controversy between CM Punk and The Elite, which has been doing the rounds once again this week. Joe wasn’t all too interested in the drama though.

“This isn’t a divide, it’s an argument between men. All those dudes don’t represent the entire genre of their generation. They have their own issues and their own problems. I don’t think it’s that deep. They’re grown-ass men. They have disagreements, they can figure it out or not. That’s between them.”

In a topic which seemed to interest him more, Joe was happy to build intrigue to the Collision main event and revisiting the historic ROH rivalry between himself and CM Punk.

“We’ve always competed to have the best match of the night, and that’s what we’re still competing to do. It was our ambition that brought us together. We were two young gentlemen who believed we were the best in the world and that we could take it to anybody. That was evident in the young versions of both of us, and it’s manifested to where we are today… When you look at the breadth of our careers, there was a large span of time when we didn’t touch. Now we’re back together, doing what we do best. I’m looking forward to seeing what he’s picked up, I’m down to show him what I’ve picked up, and we’ll see how it all hashes out in the ring.”

As noted by Joe, it has been quite some time since the two men locked horns, as Punk had left WWE before Joe had even thought about joining the promotion, meaning that they weren’t under the same banner. In fact, it has been 18 years since the two men were in the same ring, all the way back in 2005 within Ring of Honor.
