The Rock

The Rock is set to receive a star on the iconic Hollywood Walk of Fame on December 13th,

Variety.com

has revealed.

The ceremony will take place a week before

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle

hits cinema screens, in which the WWE legend stars alongside Kevin Hart and Jack Black.

In receiving the accolade, he will join Vince McMahon, who also has a star on the famous boulevard.

Interestingly, while McMahon's star is part of the 'television' category, Rock's star will be under 'motion pictures'. Although he is one of the most renowned professional wrestlers ever, it could certainly be argued that his exploits in the world of film have since eclipsed that.

The Rock has built on his considerable Hollywood success over the past few years; in 2017 alone he starred in both

Baywatch

(alongside Zac Efron) and

The Fate of the Furious

- the eighth instalment of the wildly popular

Fast and Furious

franchise.

Rock first entered the film industry during the latter stages of his WWE run, starring in

The Scorpion King

in 2002. He left in 2004 to pursue a full-time career in Hollywood, but returned in 2011 for a groundbreaking feud with John Cena. Although he only made sporadic appearances during this time, Rock main-evented two consecutive WrestleManias opposite Cena, winning the first bout and losing the second.

Next year, he's set to star in Disney's

Jungle Cruise

, as well as upcoming action movies

Rampage

and

Skyscraper

.

The Rock is, of course, one of the most popular WWE Superstars of all time, and one of the few to truly crossover into mainstream pop culture. There has even been talk of a 2020 Presidential campaign.

In the wrestling world, Rock was one of the major stars of the Attitude Era, and is an eight-time WWE Champion. He has headlined no less than five WrestleManias, in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2012, and 2013.
