Rob Gronkowski Will Not Be Wrestling In WWE In 2020

Rob Gronkowski has received an overwhelmingly negative reaction from WWE fans since debuting on the March 20 episode of Friday Night SmackDown. He was widely panned for his exuberance in dancing to the ring and the criticism only continued after he hosted WrestleMania 36.

Fans won't be seeing Gronk for much longer after he decided to return to the NFL and was traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Tuesday. While he was expected to have a match at SummerSlam, a source close to Gronkowski told Mike Florio at ProFootballTalk that the 24/7 Champion is "done with wrestling" for the time being.

Gronk's agent Drew Rosenhaus later confirmed that The Gronkosaurus will honour his NFL contract, which means he will have to comply with paragraph three of the Standard Player Contract which states: "player will not play football or engage in activities related to football otherwise than for Club or engage in any activity other than football which may involve a significant risk of personal injury."

This leaves the status of the 24/7 Championship up in the air. Gronkowski can still appear on WWE TV, but he will either have to relinquish the title or limit physical contact with his opponent if he loses the belt by pinfall or submission.
