WWE wanted Cody Rhodes in the video game

WWE 2K22 features several high-profile talents, including the likes of Edge, AJ Styles, Brock Lesnar, Seth Rollins, and Roman Reigns, but WWE wanted a new signing to be added to the title as a playable character.
According to Sports Gamers Online, WWE asked 2K in February if Cody Rhodes could be added to the new video game but the idea was quickly turned down as it was too short notice even for DLC.
"WWE tried, but it was quickly shot down. They knew it was unlikely, but you don't know for sure unless you ask," a person close to the WWE 2K22 development team said.
SGO noted it would have taken weeks of work to add Rhodes to the title from scanning Cody to updated moves to new lines from the commentary team. Rhodes will be featured in the next 2K title, which is believed to be WWE 2K23.
Rhodes had previously been away from WWE for six years - with his most notable stint coming in All Elite Wrestling - before he returned to the company at WrestleMania 38. He is currently in a feud with Seth Rollins and they will have their third match at Hell In A Cell on Sunday, June 5.
