Braun Strowman's time with WWE came to an end yesterday and The Monster Among Men was released by the company along with Aleister Black, Ruby Riott, Lana, Santana Garrett and Murphy.

Dave Meltzer discussed the releases on Wrestling Observer Radio and he noted the talent let go by WWE were Superstars Vince McMahon decided he had nothing for. Factors in Braun Strowman's release were reportedly his high salary and the belief within WWE that he was two years past his peak.

Meltzer said: "Basically it was expressed to me is that he was two years past his peak and he was getting a high salary, and that was the issue with him."

Braun Strowman reportedly re-upped with WWE on a "monster deal" back in 2019 and he was signed with the company through 2023 on a contract worth over $1 million per year.

In the years prior to re-signing with the company, Strowman had been one of the most popular Superstars in WWE and many believed he should have been given a Universal Title run. He was particularly popular in 2017 and 2018 and while he would main event pay-per-views, WWE put the belt on Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns instead. Strowman wouldn't capture the Universal Championship until WrestleMania 36 in 2020.
