Report: USA Network's Reaction To WWE NXT 2.0 Revealed
A positive reaction from the network
Oct 4, 2021
NXT has undergone major changes in recent weeks. While the Tuesday night show previously had a darker feel and featured plenty of former independent wrestling standouts, it underwent a revamp as NXT 2.0 on September 14 with a new, brighter set. More of WWE's homegrown talent like Bron Breakker and Von Wagner have been featured over the last three weeks as well, while the brand has also aired edgier content following encouragement from Vince McMahon.
The NXT 2.0 changes have gone over well with USA Network, according to Fightful Select. Andrew Zarian, who collaborated with Fightful on the story, noted the TV network had responded favourably to NXT 2.0 and to many of the changes put in place. People working for the network have also been happy with the show's increased production values.
USA Network sources reacted positively to several segments from NXT 2.0's September 14 episode, including the opening segment, Bron Breakker's win over LA Knight, Diamond Mine, the NXT Championship match and the show-closing wedding between Dexter Lumis and Indi Hartwell.
Other USA Network sources said they were "elated" with the direction of NXT 2.0. They were also unconcerned about possible opposition from sponsors as many USA Network shows have similar elements to WWE. Instead, they believe NXT 2.0's direction "should be more accepted within sports entertainment."
The network were also said to be happy about the initial rise in viewership. Ratings have fallen since, though, and last week's show dropped 30 percent in the key 18-49 demographic.
