The Phenomenal One will be back soon...
Jan 30, 2020
During the Men's Royal Rumble match,
AJ Styles sustained a separated shoulderafter a Spear from Edge. While trying to sell the Spear, Styles rotated in the air and landed awkwardly, causing the separation.
He was then seen talking to WWE officials and trainers before speaking to the Rated R-Superstar and being promptly eliminated. He was later seen backstage at the pay-per-view with his arm heavily wrapped.
While no initial timeframe for his return was set,
Dave Meltzer has now reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletterthat The Phenomenal One will hopefully only be out of action for four to six weeks and then work towards a match at WrestleMania 36.
Styles currently does not have a clear opponent for The Showcase Of The Immortals. He was previously feuding with Randy Orton, but The Viper is set to face Edge at WrestleMania instead.
For the avoidance of doubt, Meltzer penned: "Besides Banks, there was one key injury in the Rumble, which was A.J. Styles, who separated his shoulder in taking a spear from Edge. Styles said that he tried to sell strong for Edge and take a spectacular bump, but in doing so, landed on his left shoulder and injured it. He got up and the left arm was dangling. They wanted him to leave the ring but he insisted on going over the top rope and being eliminated, telling Edge to throw him over. Right now it is hoped he will be out of action only four to six weeks and won’t miss WrestleMania."
