Gran Metalik reverted back to his Mascara Dorada in-ring name following his release from WWE in November 2021 but the luchador has since undergone another name change as he was simply billed as 'Metalik' on the first episode of ROH TV under the Tony Khan regime on Thursday, March 2.

Metalik suffered a loss to Ari Daivari on the show but if the ROH TV tapings are any indicator, he will likely be involved in the ROH Six-Man Tag Team Title picture at Supercard of Honor alongside AR Fox and Blake Christian.

There was some surprise at Metalik being able to use that name in Ring of Honor, especially since WWE continue to hold the trademark for 'Gran Metalik.' In an update, Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the 34-year-old is able to go by 'Metalik' as he owns the rights to that name and performed as just 'Metalik' in CMLL during the early portion of his career before becoming Mascara Dorada in 2008.

According to Meltzer, Metalik will continue to wrestle as Mascara Dorada in New Japan Pro-Wrestling and when he eventually returns to CMLL. Dorada is looking to wrestle in Mexico and Japan but he cannot leave the United States until he receives a green card. The hope is it will be sorted by May but the situation is out of his hands.
