Report: Talent Believe Toni Storm Quit WWE Due To 'Professional Burnout'

Only one day after her final match for the company, it emerged that Toni Storm had departed WWE on December 29 with reports noting the former NXT UK Women's Champion quit the promotion and paid for her own flight home.

WWE have handled the situation as if the company granted Storm her release and Fightful Select noted WWE would have found it difficult to justify not letting Storm go due to the roster cuts the promotion have made in 2021.

As to why Storm quit WWE, talent in the company were under the impression the 26-year-old left because of 'professional burnout,' according to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. An individual within WWE also pointed to the booking of Storm's recent storyline with Charlotte Flair, a feud which the SmackDown Women's Champion largely dominated.

Storm's departure ends her three-year run in WWE. She enjoyed early success in the company, winning the 2018 Mae Young Classic and then the NXT UK Women's Championship, and she was set to join NXT in early 2020 but that move was put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Storm eventually debuted on the then-black-and-gold-brand in October of that year and she later moved to SmackDown in July 2021.
