On last night's episode of Monday Night Raw, Seth Rollins & Buddy Murphy defended their Raw Tag Team Championships against Kevin Owens & Samoa Joe. All four superstars have been embroiled in a rivalry since The Monday Night Messiah set out on his quest to save WWE's flagship show.

During the match, Joe hit Murphy with a Suicide Dive but landed awkwardly. The Samoan Submission Machine then held the back of his head and took some time getting back to his feet. After returning from an advert break, Joe was nowhere to be found and Tom Phillips confirmed he had been taken to the back. A replay then showed the former United States champion resisting being removed from the bout, causing many to believe the injury was a work.

However,

Mike Johnson at PWInsider

confirmed the injury was "100% legitimate" and the decision to remove Joe from the match was made by WWE's medical team. The three remaining Superstars then called the rest of the match on the fly, which ended with Rollins & Murphy retaining their titles.

This is Joe's fourth injury in the last three years, and he only just returned from the sidelines at the start of the month after breaking his thumb in September.

For the avoidance of doubt, Johnson penned: "The decision to remove Joe from the match was made by WWE medical personnel and was 100% legitimate, not something that was booked as part of the match. Everyone involved was pretty much calling the remainder of the bout on the fly.

"Joe is currently being examined backstage to diagnose any potential injuries."
