Last month, Louis Dangoor at WrestleTalk reported Randy Orton had campaigned backstage to feud with NXT stars Adam Cole and Tommaso Ciampa in "the coming months." This came after The Viper's original opponent at SummerSlam 2020 Edge was ruled out of action for up to eight months after he tore his triceps during The Greatest Wrestling Match Ever.

Dangoor followed up on his initial report yesterday and noted Orton wouldn't be facing anyone from the black and gold brand at The Biggest Party Of The Summer because of the shortage of top heels on Monday Night Raw. The Legend Killer is instead needed for a top programme on the red brand and will likely face Drew McIntyre for the WWE Championship on August 23.

The Scottish Psychopath has previously said he would love to face Orton at SummerSlam as he thinks it will help establish him as a "top top player" in the wrestling behemoth.

McIntyre said: "Regarding SummerSlam, I think Orton is the one that has to happen. You know, right now, we're in a situation where we're building a lot of people, including myself. And myself and Lashley together, I think we're people to help each other with MVP and bring each other up as I'm on my rise, establishing myself as champion and what my legacy is going to be.

"But someone like an Orton is somebody that can make me work up, really learn from. He's also an established face and people tune in and they're gonna say, 'There’s Randy Orton.' If they've never seen me before, if they remember me from the past, they're gonna go, 'Oh, who's this guy?' And he's gonna help tell that story and really establish me as a top top player. I think basically Randy Orton is my joker. I think there's a great storyline there."
