A segment involving MJF on the May 17 edition of AEW Dynamite ended up being changed.

MJF had a presence throughout Dynamite as the build to his AEW World Title match against his fellow AEW pillars at Double or Nothing continued and the Salt of the Earth was particularly annoyed after Sammy Guevara and Darby Allin made the save for "Jungle Boy" Jack Perry on this week's show.

Following the moment, the broadcast went backstage to show Renee Paquette approaching MJF to ask for his thoughts about what had just happened. MJF wasn't in the mood for talking, though, as he slapped the microphone out of Paquette's hand before walking away.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the original plan for MJF was for a promo segment involving his Double or Nothing opponents and Britt Baker. The former AEW Women's World Champion would have ended the segment by telling Friedman that even if he wins at the pay-per-view, he won't have the title for long "Bay Bay". The segment didn't take place as "there was something about it that was deemed not good."

Meltzer noted the idea is for Adam Cole to be the next challenger for the AEW World Championship and it was speculated that AEW scrapped the segment as people would assume from the Britt call-out that MJF is winning at Double or Nothing. The AEW World Champion is the heavy favourite to win the Four Way at the May 28 pay-per-view.

Adam Cole has challenged for the AEW World Championship twice before as he failed to defeat Hangman Page for the gold in early 2022. MJF has been AEW World Champion since Full Gear in November 2022 when he defeated Jon Moxley with the assistance of William Regal.
