Stories have come out in recent weeks that WWE was considering trying to move NXT out of its WWE Network placement, with Fox Sports 1 as a rumored cable home for the program. A new report now has WWE's main cable base in play to gain the developmental brand.

Mike Johnson of PWInsider

has reported that there is now a pitch for NXT to move to the USA Network, beginning this October.

Per Johnson's report, the show would become a live weekly two-hour series emanating from Full Sail University in Winter Park, FL, beginning Wednesday, October 2.

If it were to assume the 8 to 10 PM time slot on Wednesday nights (on USA or any network, really), that would pit NXT directly head to head with AEW on TNT.

If this happens, it would mark the first time WWE product battled another national wrestling product on cable TV since TNA Impact tried to go head to head with Raw in early 2010. Of course, most would be apt to recall the real Monday Night Wars between WWE Raw and WCW Nitro between 1995 and 2001.

Johnson adds that nothing is official, but that "the ball is in play".
