Finn Balor put the NXT Championship on the line against Kyle O'Reilly at NXT TakeOver: 31 over the weekend. The match has been widely praised by fans and both men left the Capitol Wrestling Center battered and bloodied as they tried to wear each other down for 28 minutes.

Ultimately, Balor retained the title after he hit O'Reilly with his Running Shotgun Dropkick and followed up with the Coup De Grace for the 1-2-3.

Despite the match being 28 minutes, many thought the finish came a little bit out of nowhere, and it initially seemed like the two men were going to wrestle for at least 35 minutes since the main event started less than two hours into the show.

Bryan Alvarez reported on Wrestling Observer Live the match was supposed to be longer, but The Prince decided to go to the finish early.

Alvarez said: "It appeared that he (Finn Balor) called for the match to go home early. If you watched the match and didn't know about the injuries, the finish quite frankly did just come out of nowhere… So, they went home a little bit early, I don't know how early."

Both Balor and O'Reilly picked up injuries during the bout. It is believed the NXT Champion suffered a broken jaw while the challenger has multiple broken teeth.
