Goldberg returned to WWE TV for the first time since WrestleMania 36 last week and the two-time Universal Champion appeared inside the ThunderDome during Roman Reigns vs. Braun Strowman on the season premiere of Friday Night SmackDown.

According to Inside The Ropes, WWE decided to bring Goldberg back to give SmackDown a ratings boost during its premiere episode and to kick off the build to a feud in the run-up to WrestleMania 37. The former WCW World Heavyweight Champion's appearance seemingly didn't help draw viewers, though, as the overnight viewership average was 1.987 million, down 8.77 percent from October 9.

WWE sources also told Inside The Ropes, "Vince McMahon couldn't care less what anyone thinks about him using Goldberg," and the boss believes Goldberg's name still holds value in 2020.

Regardless of if fans want to see Goldberg in the ring or not, they can expect to see the WWE Hall Of Famer inside the squared circle at least four more times. Goldberg previously told The Pop Culture Show that he has a two-matches per year deal with WWE and is under contract "through 2022-2023."
