The Jon Moxley vs CM Punk feud has been short, engrossing, and at times puzzling and despite Moxley squashing Punk in three minutes to unify the AEW World Championships on the August 24 edition of Dynamite, reports state that the rematch is set for All Out on September 4.

The original title unification match was moved from All Out to Dynamite, amidst a background of injury and frustration for CM Punk, and writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer has reported that Mox vs. Punk II will go down at the PPV, and the Dynamite match was part of the story:

“It wasn’t a ratings ploy, although the timing was such that they definitely wanted to boost ratings, as much as Moxley becoming the real champion as he personally hated the interim thing, and it being a way to tell a different story. Some didn’t like the short match. Others did. Some felt it would hurt doing a PPV rematch just 11 days later, and others felt the nature of how the match was done, being kept short and having an injury, puts more doubt and helps the PPV,” said Meltzer.

Punk sold his foot injury during the Dynamite match, but with commentary talking about ‘Puink coming back too soon’ as well as ‘backstage footage’ set to air on the August 26 edition of AEW: Rampage, it certainly seems like this is all a storytelling device.

As always though, card is subject to change.
