Report: Final Minutes Of WWE Men's Royal Rumble Were Cut
Cut for time
Feb 1, 2022
Similar to his Royal Rumble appearance in 2020, Brock Lesnar dominated in Saturday's Rumble match.
Entering at #30, Lesnar proceeded to eliminate much of the remaining talents before a brief back and forth with Drew McIntyre that ended with The Beast Incarnate F5-ing the two-time WWE Champion over the top rope for the win.
That wasn't the original plan, though, and Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that McIntyre and Lesnar were originally scheduled to have a longer back and forth struggle but it was cut as WWE were running low on time.
"The deal basically with the Rumble was Brock was to murder everybody and that was that. That was probably Brock's call because it was kind of said to me that Brock was gonna get exactly what he wanted and that was to get himself as strong as possible for the Roman Reigns match. Everybody was supposed to get murdered by him and they all did," Meltzer said.
"But they were gonna do stuff with Drew, they did want to protect Drew. But they were running low on time as you could tell and they had to rush to get off the air and everything like that so they didn’t do as much."
Following his Royal Rumble appearance, Lesnar announced on Monday's edition of Raw that he will challenge Roman Reigns for the Universal Title at WrestleMania 38.
