Rumours in recent months have noted that Darby Allin winning the AEW World Championship had been "at least strongly talked about" within All Elite Wrestling and him ending Bryan Danielson's full-time career was a possibility.
In an update, an AEW World Title win for Darby wasn't just being talked about, it was actually planned, according to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio. Allin was scheduled to defeat Bryan Danielson for the AEW World Championship which would have also ended the American Dragon's full-time in-ring career.
"The winner between Moxley and Darby is going to wrestle Danielson for the title in Tacoma [WrestleDream]. Darby was at one point winning that match and he's from the area essentially. Seattle. However, the money match right now is very clearly Moxley," Meltzer said.
Bryan Danielson vs. Darby Allin was originally scheduled to take place at Dynamite Grand Slam at New York City's Arthur Ashe Stadium on September 25. That match has been changed, however, as Darby will instead put his AEW World Title shot on the line against Jon Moxley at Grand Slam, while Danielson has been booked to face Nigel McGuinness in a non-title match.
AEW will hold WrestleDream on October 12 at the Tacoma Dome in Tacoma, Washington. Both Danielson and Allin are from Washington.
