Much of the WrestleMania 39 card has been made official by WWE in recent weeks, with the two nights of wrestling set to be headlined by Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship, The Usos vs. Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Titles, and Rhea Ripley vs. Charlotte Flair for the SmackDown Women's Title.

One match that has been teased on TV but has yet to be booked on the show is Rey Mysterio vs. Dominik Mysterio, although reports have indicated the match is indeed planned for the Showcase of the Immortals.

The programme has revolved around Rey refusing to fight his son going back to when Dominik turned on his father at Clash at the Castle in September 2022, with the former WWE Champion repeatedly walking away from Dom's goading in recent weeks. Angie and Aalyah Mysterio are currently scheduled to appear on tonight's edition of SmackDown in the latest chapter of the feud between Dominik and Rey.

In an update, Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the match might not be made official before WrestleMania 39. There have reportedly been discussions to shoot an angle on night one of WrestleMania ahead of a match on night two. An angle to set up the clash could also take place at the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony on Friday, March 31, with Rey set to be inducted as part of the 2023 class.
