Report: Backstage News On Botched WWE SmackDown Fireball Spot
The spot on WWE SmackDown didn't quite go as planned
Sep 26, 2022
A major botch took place on Friday's episode of SmackDown from Salt Lake City.
On the show, Drew McIntyre made his way to the ring and challenged Karrion Kross to a Strap Match at Extreme Rules. The two-time WWE Champion was soon interrupted by Scarlett before Kross tried to attack him from behind and a brawl broke out between the two competitors.
McIntyre had the upper hand during the opening minutes but Scarlett eventually moved into the ring and shot a fireball at McIntyre's face. The fireball veered to the left, though, missing McIntyre, but The Scottish Warrior briefly sold the spot like he had been hit. Scarlett then decked Drew with a Low Blow and Kross stood tall after choking out McIntyre with the Kross Jacket and accepting his challenge.
According to Fightful Select, the fireball botch happened because the flash paper was not ready for live TV. The paper was brought in by the WWE team that took the company jet to SmackDown. It was not picked up by the prop team or from a local supplier.
Following the botch, Kross was told to keep going and the former NXT Champion and Drew McIntyre put together the rest of the segment on the fly.
